Last Thursday, FLIR apparently shut down their consumer section. Those of you waiting for the FLIR PTS series in 640 will apparently be on infinite hold because it isn't going to happen.

It will be very interesting to see if they are at Shot Show and what they have to say. Maybe Todd will give us a report back??

So basically they bought armasight which used their cores and now have shut the whole operation down. Does any other company even make a scope using a Flir thermal core now?

I wonder if this will continue?

Well, they are going to keep all their military and other government (fire, police, rescue) contracts and what not. I am sure there are some small makers of thermal stuff that will still use them, for a while anyway...until current supplies run out.

The Boson cores were full of problems, and the tau 2 is outdated not sure why you would want either. If you do there will be a few small scale operations using them but nothing I would invest that type of money into personally.

What sort of problems did y’all have. Other than the fact that it’s only a 320 instead of 640 I don’t have any complaints about my breach or PTS233.

I mainly just curious about the complaints because I don’t remember having any trouble with mine.

Thanks.

Do you recall the need for 6 (or was it 7) different manners in which the image quality could be adjusted in order to get a proper image? You had to balance out all the different parameters in order to get the best image possible. Most folks did not understand what most of the different adjustments even did.

LOTS of folks had to return scopes that failed and apparently the problem was with the core. At Third Coast, they had something like 6 out of the first 8 scopes that had to be returned. Apparently, the unit I was testing was one that worked as designed. I didn't know about the other problems until much later.

That FLIR could not get a 640 in production is HUGE. That meant their optics would always being 2nd tier in an industry where they are supposed to be a leader if not the leader.

I remember having to constantly adjust the gain and contrast each use before the first software update. No doubt that was a pain in the ass.

I use my scope and breach now with the same settings locked into place. I literally never change them and the system seems to work fine for me.

I think I may had received the first one from third coast and never heard of any failures. I only
Know of three other folks who have them so my sample is low.

I always thought the 640 rollout delay was due to marketing but in the back of my mind considered may have really been a problem with that core.

Thanks for the info. I always wondered about that.

Well Todd's been telling us ever since the merger that FLIR hates us. And, now its gettin' out.

...
"According to an anonymous source that spoke to the BurstReview YouTube channel, FLIR will discontinue civilian sales of optics this Monday, January 20th.
According to BurstReview’s sources, FLIR’s board of directors and shareholders are anti-hunting and believe that only military and law enforcement should have access to thermal optics" ...

I already have 8 thermals, I guess I'll have to get another non-FLIR thermal in "protest" :D

(I sold my 5 armasight thermals as soon as the merger was announced ... at first I thought maybe I acted in haste ... I was really just worried about the CS, the units were fine. But looking back on it, I think I made the right choice, went the BAE core direction and don't regret it, except for my pocket book)

Doesn't sound like there will be any support for my PTS233 in the future.

Wildfowler, I live in central Miss. What adjustment values do you run with your 233. I have one of the first pts scopes with a four digit serial number and mine works great after the update. I use it constantly.
