Quick question I just bought my first apollo clip on. I notice the reticle in the apollo doesnt cowotness with my vortex strike eagle reticle. Does that matter?
Also I notice the american defense mount is a tiny but high which places my day time reticle a little low in the thermal screen. It doesnt really seem to bother me. I'm just wondering if it's normal. Thank you for the help in advance.

Maybe, just remember you're pointing your dayscope at a screen inside the thermal. You're not actually looking through the scope. Imho the only advance to the clip on is the zoom feature of the dayscope. I use my clip on as a stand alone scope now.

Use the left and top margins to adjust the POI of the Apollo when in clipon mode and turn off the reticle.

Ideally, you want the optical centers of the day scope (via its mount) and the clipon to be the same or at least close. But if you can make sufficient adjustments with left and top margin to eliminate POI shift, then you are fine.

The real reason I bought a clip on is because I do a lot of day hunting for deer that turns Into night hunting for hogs and coyotes. And I dont want to carry around 2 rifles. Not to mention I always trust my zero on my day scopes I've been hunting a while now with clip on night vision and having good success. Minute of angle bullet shift at the most with my night vision clip on

==thanks for the advice. Let me clarify for myself so your saying use the thermals reticle and margin adjust to lign up the thermals reticle with my day scope reticle? Then turn the thermals reticle off?

Haha, I didn't see your words embedded in my "quote" ... until I re-read ... ok !

Negatif, the thermal reticle is not relevant to using the thermal as a clipon. When using the thermal as a clipon, turn the reticle off.

To zero the thermal as a clipon, first zero the day optic at the desired distance with the desired rifle and ammo.

Then at night, mount the thermal clipon in front of the day optic and place some handwarmers on several targets.

Shoot a 3rd group to see where you are. if you are off, adjust the LEFT margin for horizonal alignment and the TOP margin for vertical alignment. Repeat until the alignment is complete.

If you want to remove the clipon and reinstall it, I recommend something to mark the rail section, like Larue rail clips. Using these ensures you get it back on in the same place each time. You may loose an inch of POI with the remount, but with hogs under 150yds, that's acceptable. It's been 3 years since I sold my Apollo 336(60) but I practiced putting it on 100 times before I used it seriously ... and could put it on and take it off with one hand. I also had a lanyard on it and could use it as a spotter.

The dark strap hanging down from the front in the gun is the lanyard attached to the Apollo. I could remove the apollo and throw it around my neck as a spotter.

But I agree with the earlier post, I wound up using the apollo more as a dedicated thermal and spotter and not as a clipon.

That clears it up for me. I saw what you said about the margins and I was able to move the day scope reticle into the middle of the screen. Next time I go hunting I'll make sure the impact is the same through the thermal as it is with just the days scope. Super appreciate the advice man. You have no idea

Again, the day scope reticle zero has nothing to do with the collimation of the Apollo as a clipon. When using as a clipon you are trying to align the optical centers of the day optic and the thermal, with the thermal that can be a software thing, equivalent to moving the physical site around to get it aligned.

When ready to use the apollo as a clipon, just turn off the reticle in the apollo. That reticle is used when you using the apollo as a dedicated 1x thermal scope.

Sounds like a giant pain in the ass. I sure did like Todd’s videos of his 640 Apollo.

It's basically the same process as zeroing a thermal. Observe the POI and adjust until POI = POA. Just using different buttons.

Does it matter th as the armasight apollo mount has the thermal a bit higher than my day scope?
I'd like to login them up perfectly. Does American defense sell a lower block to get it maybe 1/4 lower to my rail?

the short answer is NO (as long as you can adjust the POI to match the POA with the LEFT and TOP margin adjustments)

Good news. I followed your instructions and moved the margins around till I had no shift with thermal on off. I had a dead on zero. shot a few squirrels. And later that night a couple of hogs. The small one was a 100 yards or and balling but through the woods. I could see him clear as day even though he was 10 years into the woods with foliage. Amazing clarity. Awesome scope. 20181008_233322.jpg

what I did was turn on recticle in armasight while looking through daytime optic sight using the armasight reticle to sight in do not move daytime optic once your poi is established with armasight recticle go to menu to margin settings and move screen which will move recticle to match daytime optic if the daytime optic was sighted in you should be good

The daytime optic should be on sight before you do anything by itself
